my ongoing meditation on systems, human cognition, and how to best collaborate with teams to delight and empower both.
Primary Tasks: Interaction design, user roles definition
Virtuwell is a first-of-its kind online service, taking the “Ask A Nurse” concept to the next level by offering diagnostic & treatment services for the most common & least-invasive maladies, that would otherwise cost much more to treat via physician office visits. And would require the hassle of leaving your house.
The way it works is that a patient arrives to the site and enters into an online questionnaire flow to submit personal information, persistent conditions, and to identify problematic symptoms with the help of visual and audio aids to guide the most precise answers. The person at the computer can also be a parent or guardian of the patient, for treating the handicapped, elderly, or dependent children. A nurse on the backend then reviews all data input for the patient, makes a diagnosis (or declines to accept the case), and electronically sends a prescription for the patient to their designated pharmacy.
This was a great and eye-opening experience for me, in learning about the online particulars in working with HIPPA requirements, payment gateway issues, and working with the team to figure-out how to address the labrynthic and arcane administrative details frequently encountered when migrating a beurocratically-dense paper-based system, to something simple, intuitive, thorough, and digital.
Arcane’ry should still be kept out of sight, and the UX should be easy-breezy. But how to do, while also give the person on the other end the precise information they need? Fun stuff!!! #bringit
